For maintenance or re-coat projects, be sure to read the MAINTENANCE / RECOAT INSTRUCTIONS section at the bottom of this page to see how that may alter the below steps.

It is important to prep your wood correctly before proceeding to the sanding and coating steps.

Sikkens Cetol BL Deck & Wood Cleaner

Brightens and revitalises grey weathered timbers.

GENERAL ADVICE:
Rinse the timber thoroughly to ensure all the cleaner is removed and leave the surface to completely dry before proceeding to next step. Dust down ensuring a clean dust free surface.

STEP 2. SAND

Prior to coating it is best to lightly sand cladding with 120 grit sand paper. Dust down ensuring a clean dust free surface.

STEP 3. COAT

Coating your wood in the right way will allow it to survive the test of time whilst looking great. There may be a number of products and options available to you in this step.

Superior UV resistant oil based coloured finish

OR

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY QUICK DRYING WATER BASED FINISH

GENERAL ADVICE:
Do not sand between coats. Always apply coatings along the grain and never across.

IS YOUR PROJECT A MAINTENANCE OR RE-COAT? PLEASE READ THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BELOW*

Outdoor furniture receive constant abuse from the elements, but with periodic cleaning and refinishing, you can protect them and keep them looking their best.

STEP 1: Clean surface with a mild detergent and water solution. Rinse and allow to dry thoroughly.

STEP 2:  Apply two coats of previously applied coating.  It may have been either Cetol BLX-Pro or Cetol HLSe or Cetol Filter 7 Plus, allowing recommended product drying time in between coats.
