WHAT'S YOUR PROJECT?

PROJECT TYPE: Decking - New Hardwood

A hardwood timber deck can enhance any home, garden, commercial or retail property. Follow these steps to get the most out of your deck.

For maintenance or re-coat projects, be sure to read the MAINTENANCE / RECOAT INSTRUCTIONS section at the bottom of this page to see how that may alter the below steps.

It is important to prepare your wood correctly before proceeding to the sanding and coating steps. Dust down ensuring a clean dust free surface.

GENERAL ADVICE:
Rinse the timber thoroughly to ensure all the cleaner is removed and leave the surface to completely dry before proceeding to next step.

STEP 2. SAND

Prior to coating it is best to lightly sand the timber deck with 60-80 grit sand paper. Dust down ensuring a clean dust free surface.

STEP 3. COAT

Coating your wood in the right way will allow it to survive the test of time whilst looking great. There may be a number of products and options available to you in this step.

Eco Friendly Quick Drying Water Based Coloured Finish

OR

TRADITIONAL OIL BASED COLOURED FINISH

OR

PREMIUM OIL BASED NATURAL FINISH

OR

PREMIUM OIL BASED NATURAL FINISH - SLIP RESISTANT

GENERAL ADVICE:
Do not sand between coats. Always apply coatings along the grain and never across.

MAINTENANCE / RE-COAT INSTRUCTIONS

IS YOUR PROJECT A MAINTENANCE OR RE-COAT? PLEASE READ THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BELOW*

Wooden decks receive constant abuse from the elements, but with periodic cleaning and refinishing, you can protect them and keep them looking their best.

STEP 1: Apply  Cetol BL Wood & Deck Cleaner using a mop and bucket.

STEP 2: Work it into the timber using a stiff bristle brush to remove dirt, grease and grime.  Allow to rest for 15 minutes then wash thoroughly and allow to completely dry.

STEP 3:  Apply one or two coats of previously applied coating.  It may have been either Cetol BLX-ProCetol HLSe,  Cetol Deck  or  Cetol Deck Slip Resistant, allowing recommended product drying time in between coats.
