WHAT'S YOUR PROJECT?

PROJECT TYPE: exterior timber joinery - Softwood / Treated Pine

For maintenance or re-coat projects, be sure to read the MAINTENANCE / RECOAT INSTRUCTIONS section at the bottom of this page to see how that may alter the below steps.

STEP 1. PREP

Wash your interior windows and doors with a solution of water and mild detergent and allow to dry thoroughly.

GENERAL ADVICE:
Rinse the timber thoroughly to ensure all the cleaner is removed and leave the surface to completely dry before proceeding to next step.

STEP 2. SAND

Prior to coating it is best to lightly sand windows and doors with 120 grit sand paper. Dust down ensuring a clean dust free surface prior to next step.

STEP 3. COAT

Coating your wood in the right way will allow it to survive the test of time whilst looking great. There may be a number of products and options available to you in this step.

GENERAL ADVICE:
For an ultra smooth finish sand with 320 grip sandpaper just prior to the final coat. Always apply coatings along the grain and never across.

MAINTENANCE / RE-COAT INSTRUCTIONS

IS YOUR PROJECT A MAINTENANCE OR RE-COAT? PLEASE READ THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BELOW*

Windows and doors receive constant abuse from the elements, but with periodic cleaning and refinishing, you can protect them and keep them looking their best.

STEP 1: Clean surface with a mild detergent and water solution. Rinse and allow to dry thoroughly.

STEP 2: Apply one or two coats of previously applied coating. It may have been either Cetol BLX-PROCetol Supernatural  or Cetol Filter 7 plus,  allowing recommended product drying time in between coats.
